I get it. You’re wanting something different than kitchen appliances, flowers, and brunch, this Mother’s Day, opt-in for a catered-to-you experience instead. The beauty of the following Mother’s Day Ideas is that you can do them solo for just “me time” or they can be done with your kids and family. You get to choose!
Although Mother’s Day is a wonderful international holiday that celebrates you as a Mom, I think it’s more important to celebrate you on a regular basis and not just on Mother’s Day. I am huge on promoting self-care. As mothers, we typically are captains of the ship. We do so much to keep the rest of the family in order, which can lead to us forgetting to put ourselves first at times. Don’t worry! It’s not selfish. In fact, you want your children to see you taking care of yourself. Your children will then learn their own needs of self-care. Besides, we simply cannot show up for our families while running on empty. Taking the time for self-care, in whatever healthy form that looks like for you, allows you to recharge and refresh. Whether you’re a first-time mom or a well-seasoned mom or I’ve come up with the perfect Mother’s Day Ideas that allow you to celebrate you!
Honor this season of Motherhood with a photoshoot centered around you and your babies. As a Motherhood photographer, I know I hold a bit of bias with this one! However, I speak truthfully when I say, you’ll never regret this experience. One day your children will look for photos of you, make sure you’re in them too. A motherhood photoshoot centers around celebrating YOU. You’ve put aside so much to raise your children the best way you know how. You have maybe experienced a struggle to even have your children. You’ve been through numerous emotional battles as you worry if you’re doing enough. Well, a motherhood portrait experience gives you the security and proof that you were present. Let someone else take care of the little details and pamper you. You deserve it.
There’s nothing as relaxing as a spa day! Just walking through the front doors, the ambiance- mood lighting, scents of oils & candles, and the calming environment of a spa instantly makes your worries go away. Not to mention the physical benefits of a massage or body treatment. Work out those kinks from not getting the best sleep, because your toddler takes up the room in your bed. Cleanse your lymphatic system from the numerous colds that have circulated through your home. Renew and restore your skin to feel soft and supple. The list goes on! I’ve already written a few recommendations of The Best Spas In Phoenix and if you’re pregnant here are the Top Places to Go for a Prenatal Massage in AZ.
You can choose how long you want your getaway to last AND how far you want to go. We are lucky to live in the beautiful state of Arizona with gorgeous scenery all around us within a 3-4 hour drive. We’re even more lucky that there’s a variety of options within a 6-hour drive. If you just have a day, Sedona is a quick drive. If you have longer, your options are endless.
Bonus Idea: Mom’s Trip! Gather a few of your best mom-friends and all take a trip together. Sure you’re bound to talk about the kiddos and maybe have a few heart-to-hearts about Motherhood, BUT the best part of all is celebrating with someone else who actually gets how hard this Motherhood thing is.
Treat yourself to the things you’ve been holding back on. Buy a new dress, houseplant, makeup palette, whatever makes your heart sing! You know how it goes- your children are dressed in the best wear daily and your in coffee-stained yoga pants and a baseball cap. You are quick to buy your kids whatever to keep them educated, stimulated, and occupied, but your items go into a wishlist. Venture into that wishlist and press “add to cart.” You deserve to have fun things too!
I mean absolutely nothing! You don’t have to plan for anything. Enjoy lounging on the couch catching up on your guilty pleasure for the weekend, sunbathing by the pool, or spending time on your favorite hobby.
Bonus Tip: Hire a house cleaner to come before so that you feel less guilty and more relaxed while you do nothing. If you’re feeling overzealous, of course, you could do the cleaning yourself-it IS rewarding, however, this is meant to be part of your Mother’s Day celebration so make it as easy for you as possible.

These are all great ideas for Mother’s Day, Jasmyn! I’m a little biased and would definitely choose the mommy and me photoshoot, but I’m also a big fan of spa days!
[…] Day experiences you can experience” really caught my eyes. Perhaps some of these Mother’s Day ideas will come in handy for you in the future?! I especially love the mommy and me photo shoot […]
Love all the ideas. I love the photoshoot and, of course, the do nothing idea the best 🙂
So many goo ideas. I definitely love a good spa day but nothing beats lasting memories for mothers day with a family photosession.
These are beautiful photos and I love the ideas…Especailly the one about doing nothing and hiring a house cleaner to come before!
