Having a safe space to experience childbirth is extremely important. From the day you found out you were pregnant, you most likely also started to think about the birth. Choosing where you want to experience your childbirth can be overwhelming and challenging. But, it should also be exciting yet relaxing. A birth center provides a family-centered atmosphere while providing care in midwifery and wellness. A birthing center allows you to have the feeling of being at home but without actually being at home.
A birth center is a safe option for women looking to have a low- intervention birthing experience outside of a hospital. If you have a low-risk pregnancy, you may especially love the freedom and flexibility that comes with giving birth at a center.
Some of the most appealing benefits are:
The American Association of Birth Centers(AABC) has set National Standards for Birth Centers to measure the quality of services and provide consistency across birthing centers. I encourage you to follow the link to the AABC to read their standards. Not all Phoenix birthing centers are members of the AABC in the case that their standards may meet your needs you’ll want to consider the best center for you.
Phoenix birthing centers may also be accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC). The CABC ensures the quality of care for you and your baby. They “require best practices in maternity care.”
Consider scheduling a tour(several offer virtual on their websites) and meeting with potential midwives and physicians to ensure the birth center meets your needs. Just as picking any medical professional, you’ll feel more assured and at ease during childbirth with a team who you feel most comfortable with.
Willow AZ is a team of midwives offering boutique services specializing in women’s health. This birth center has multiple locations across the Phoenix valley: Mesa, Central Phoenix, and a third location opening in 2022 in Gilbert. They provide a wide range of services from preconception & fertility, labor & birth, water birth accommodations, and postpartum & newborn care. Additionally, Willow Birth Center also has a weekly new mom’s support group!
Previously featured in Top Places to Go for a Prenatal Massage in AZ, Babymoon Inn also provides midwifery care. Babymoon Inn assures you that you are in great hands with “mother-led, family-centered care.” They accommodate water birth, provide childbirth education, and shared decision-making. Babymoon Inn has locations in Phoenix and Tucson.
Co-Owned by an OB/GYN and Midwife, Blossom Birth Center takes a holistic approach to natural birth and is located in Phoenix right next to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. They offer complete prenatal care, an array of pregnancy tonics and teas, sitz bath with Healing Earth Botanicals, and Sacred Birth Therapy. Blossom Birth Center accommodates a wide range of soothing birth techniques to help you deliver your baby. Their birthing suite features a large birthing tub which may allow enough room to accommodate you and your birth partner.
The only birth center located in Scottsdale, AZ, Wombkeepers is an Obstetrics & Gynecology Maternity Wellness Center. They offer birthing services through their Renewal Center for Birth. The Renewal Center for Birth is owned by an obstetrician and operates with a midwifery team. They take a holistic approach and provide various prenatal and postpartum care services.
At Gilbert Family Birth Center you’ll receive specialized care with midwives who only work at this birthing center. During your birthing experience, they offer both a midwife and a birth assistant. However, they still highly recommend having a doula for more hands-on support.
If you’re located in the West Valley, The Birth Nest may be a great option for you as this birthing center is located in Glendale. They offer a relaxed experience of prenatal care, labor & delivery, and newborn & postpartum services. Also, they have options for waterbirth.
Tempe Birth Center is located in downtown Tempe on Mill Ave. just behind the Mill Avenue Midwives Community Co-Op. This community of midwives and birth workers prides themselves in holistic care for “all families of ALL backgrounds.”

This is such great information. I didn’t even know this was an option when I had my boys 10+ years ago.
Yes! Even 4 years ago when I gave birth I had very few options.
