I, a Scottsdale Newborn Photographer, always recommend that every birthing mom hire a doula. I personally had a doula for the birth of my daughter. In hindsight, I couldn’t imagine NOT having her there to support me. We met multiple times prior to my estimated due date to get to know each other. She learned about my birthing preferences, which were also created with my midwife. It was nice having my doula there to advocate my wishes at such a vulnerable time. She provided comfort and care and helped me make informed decisions for a safe and healthy delivery.
What is a Doula?
According to DONA International, a nonprofit organization that certifies doulas worldwide, a doula is “a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.”

This is some great info about doulas. I love that moms have so many different options for support before, during and after childbirth.
Wow, there are so many fabulous options for doulas in the Phoenix area, I had no idea! If I could do it over, I’d absolutely choose to have a postpartum doula. It would have been so nice to have that extra support and care during that time. Thanks for sharing!
