As a Scottsdale AZ Photographer, specializing in Motherhood and Boudoir Portraits, I have an immense love for printing out your photographs. You’ve gone through the effort of having a professional photoshoot, so why not display those photographs too? As an Artist and specifically, as a photographer, thinking back to my schooling many years ago, a piece was never finished until it was matted and/or ready for display. Because I feel so passionately about this subject, I’ve created 5-important reasons to print your images.
While we live in a fast-paced digital world, nothing will ever compare to having tangible photos in your hands and adorning your walls. The photos that get printed and have a special place to live in your home give them much more value and meaning. You’re connected to the artwork- the subjects and the emotion. This inherently moves you. As I print my own images and experience what I feel, I feel closer to what these photographs mean to me…and further, as a Scottsdale AZ Photographer, what they mean to you in your life.
Continue reading along to discover the beauty in printing your photos.
Imagine how you would feel each time you looked at your beautiful photographs displayed around your home. The joy of daily seeing photographs of your favorite people and memories is like no other. It’s like experiencing a loving, surprise dopamine rush every time you walk past them. They help you push through on the days that are hardest and serve as a reminder of why you do what you do. A photograph has the power to trigger your memory and transport you back in time. You remember a smell, sounds, or, most importantly, how you felt in that moment or season of life. In fact, a photograph is so powerful that patients with Alzheimer’s have recalled memories when looking at their life in the past.
Professional labs have strict procedures in place and require the utmost expertise in their technicians to produce remarkable quality products. Within my business, I only offer Fine Art archival-quality prints from professional labs, because I want your memories to last. The importance of having archival-quality photographs is that they will live on for 100+ years, as long as they are properly taken care of, which can be passed down for many generations. I have personally tested several labs to make sure you are getting the BEST quality when it comes to ordering prints. Print-matching between labs, paper types, and inks is a rigorous process that requires a lot of technical skill and can be costly.
Also, when using a professional lab, you’re getting handcrafted artwork. The workmanship is unparalleled to what you can get at the consumer level online and/or with a local drugstore option(Walgreens, Costco, Shutterfly, etc.). With archival-quality photographs, you are getting more longevity which, yes, does mean that your printed photographs will require special care. But, with this level of quality comes UV-protected glass/acrylic frames, museum-grade matting, acid-free papers, and great care of attention to detail.
You gain back time when you have me, as your Scottsdale AZ Photographer, take care of printing. If you’re anything like me, you have thousands of photos saved on various hard drives, and online clouds. It’s quite overwhelming when I truly think about it. I think to myself-one day I’m going to go through and organize them and create an album book or project. Well, it has been years…I know I’m not alone in this.
Also, because you love all of your images, it’s harder to discern how to design them in a way that is cohesive. Over the years, I’ve gained a specially trained eye for designing your photos. I’m able to create a gorgeous flow of your story through an album. Or create a gallery wall of your dreams that looks great with the rest of your home.
Photographs are powerful representations of our lives. You have an emotional attachment to it…it moves you because it’s personal to you. When done correctly, it can be a legacy heirloom piece that gets passed down for many generations. Instead of buying the same wall art as everyone else from West Elm, Target, etc. your home is filled with unique-to-you artwork.
Think back to the point about nostalgia.
With custom artwork, you can experience you and your children(and then your grandchildren) gathering around and going through old memories. Can you imagine everyone huddled around a phone?
Studies have shown that children grow up with more self-confidence and higher self-esteem when they regularly see themselves in printed photographs around the home. Waking up to family pictures hanging in children’s bedrooms or walking past them daily in the living room gives them security and a sense of value. The photographs reassure your children that they, too, are an important member of your family.
This goes for adults too. Be reminded daily of how amazing you felt during your photoshoot by displaying the images that were taken. I get a lot of feedback from clients saying that I captured them beautifully and how they imagined. For your photoshoot, you got dolled up and dressed your best. You get to see yourself in a different light vs the daily routine version of you. PSA: Both versions are beautiful!
Printing provides a hard copy and is another way of backing up your images. We live in a digital age, but just as soon as we adapt to technology, it changes. Look at how far we have come from VHS or even CDs. Those items have become almost obsolete within less than 2-3 decades. Programs get rewritten, and updates no longer support older files. Your hard drive could crash, you lose your phone, and all of your unsaved images are gone. Facebook & Instagram could shut down any day. You don’t want your life’s most treasured memories to go away too.
I hope you loved reading this journal entry as this is a subject near and dear to my heart. If you’re ready to fill your home with beautiful keepsakes of your most cherished memories, I’d love to be your photographer. Learn more about the portrait experience I offer to all of my clients.
