What if my baby doesn’t sleep during their newborn session?

Newborn

Hi, I'm Jasmyn Coleman, a Phoenix motherhood and boudoir photographer based on the Phoenix. So glad you're here.

One of the most common worries I hear from moms is “What if my baby doesn’t sleep during their newborn session?”

Honestly? I love those sessions.

As a lifestyle newborn photographer in Phoenix, I’m not chasing a sleeping baby or trying to force a moment that isn’t naturally there

Instead, I let your baby lead.

Because even in those earliest days, they already have so much personality.

Their piercing eyes locked into yours, taking you in.

The way their chin quivers as they yawn.

The soft stretch of their fingers.

A more natural approach to newborn photography

Lifestyle newborn photography is about capturing real life– real connection, the feeling, and the gentle ambience of those early days…

Not a perfectly posed moment that took hours to create.

There’s no pressure for your baby to sleep.

No expectation for them(or their siblings) to be perfectly still.

This is why awake newborn photos can be so meaningful: nothing is rushed or forced.

Why awake babies are so special

Sleeping babies are beautiful, of course.

But awake babies bring something to a session that sleeping babies simply can’t:

Presence.

It’s in the way they look at you. The way you instinctively respond. The bonding that’s already forming between you.

These are the moments that feel more like them when you look back through their heirloom album.

When to book your newborn session

For the best experience and to ensure availability, I recommend reserving your newborn session during your second trimester.

Sessions typically take place when your baby is around 2-3 weeks after birth…when they’re still tiny, but you’ve had a little time to settle into life together.

Your baby doesn’t need to sleep. They just need to be exactly who they are.

And that’s what we’ll capture.

If you’re beginning to plan your newborn photo session, I’d love to create something meaningful for your family. Inquire to reserve your due date.
