safety
Safety is my top priority when including your pets for your newborn photoshoot. Consider your pet’s personality: are they hyper, easily excitable, or occasionally aggressive? It’s important to have realistic expectations on how well they will interact with not only your newborn, but also your newborn photographer. Always ensure that the environment is controlled and that your pet is comfortable to create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Friend/family supervision
Having a friend or family assist in handling your pet or keeping them accompanied may be an excellent idea. Your assistant can guide your pet while posing as a family and take them away when we’ve completed that portion of photographs.
pet grooming
Before your due date arrives, it may be a good idea to have your pet groomed to avoid excess shedding. Having a lint roller nearby will also help reduce any stray hairs that might appear on clothing or blankets during your newborn session. Trim your pet’s nails and having a clean, well-grooomed look. This will ensure your pet looks great in photos while maintaining a tidy appearance.
Create a comfortable environment
When your pet is not being included in photos, it’s important to have a pet-friendly space where your pet is familiar and comfortable. A little bribery goes a long way! Having their favorite toys and treats handy will help them cooperate more easily for certain poses. Remember to also reward them afterwards!
Incorporating your pet into posing
Just like with your newborn and small children, I take a relaxed approach. I will never force your pet to do something unnatural to them. If your pet isn’t feeling the moment and doesn’t want to be included in family photos, that’s totally okay! We can still include your pet in wide-angle environemental photographs. This allows us to commemorate their presence while keeping everyone in a relaxed and happy.
