The Benefits of An Indoor Maternity Photoshoot

Maternity

Hi, I'm Jasmyn Coleman, a Phoenix motherhood and boudoir photographer based on the Phoenix. So glad you're here.

As a Phoenix Motherhood Photographer, I emphasize the importance of comfortability while capturing these precious moments, indoors and outdoors. Indoor sessions provide an extra sense of privacy and relaxation, allowing you to fully embrace and celebrate your pregnancy journey, without the discomfort of outdoor elements.

This is a beautifully sacred milestone for you and your family. Whether this is your first baby or fourth, celebrating your journey into Motherhood shouldn’t be compromised due to weather. Continue reading, to discover my favorite reasons for choosing an indoor maternity photoshoot.

Avoid the Summer heat

Summers in Phoenix are extremely hot. Temperatures consistently reach above 110F/43C degrees. I would never risk you or your family to heat exhaustion out in the desert for photographs.  For this reason, from mid-June through late September, I recommend choosing an indoor maternity photoshoot where you can stay cool and comfortable.

All-year-round access

The most appealing quality of an indoor maternity photoshoot is that it can be done all year round.  As a natural light photographer in our sunny state, I have the luxury of access to gorgeous lighting no matter the time of year.

WHAT TIME OF DAY IS BEST FOR AN INDOOR MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT?

The most favorable timeframe is between 10 AM and 2 PM in most studio spaces and homes. The lighting during late morning to early afternoon is soft and easily diffused as the sun is higher in the sky. As a bonus after your photoshoot, you get to enjoy your fresh hair and makeup for the rest of the day. I recommend going out for lunch afterward or taking a stroll to a few stores to gather treasures nearby.

Ease of wardrobe changes

Unlike an outdoor setting, it’s much easier to change into multiple outfits for your indoor maternity photoshoot. The opportunity to sneak to the ladies’ room for a quick change is merely steps away. As you change into your next look, you can double-check your hair and makeup in the mirror keeping everything in place as you desire.

More room for creativity and personalization

Indoor maternity photoshoots give us more room and time to add an extra level of creativity to your photographs. We can play with fabrics, add flowers, and utilize a variety of furniture and backdrops like a mineral wall or hand-painted canvas. Your gallery will consist of various poses between laying down, standing, and natural movements.

Added privacy for intimate maternity photos

Privacy and comfort are of the utmost importance to me. Maternity boudoir requires a certain level of vulnerability and trust in your surroundings. To keep you relaxed and feeling present during your photoshoot, an indoor setting allows us to control the environment away from unwanted glances from strangers.

“Jasmyn was so calming and sweet during the session which allowed both my partner and I to fully relax and enjoy the session. These photographs turned out so beautiful and we are so grateful for Jasmyn for capturing this time in our lives.” Isadora

Dedicated Space for partners and children

During your solo photographs, it’s easy for your partner and children to step away for a break. Indoors, there’s no worry about children wandering off and being pricked by cactus or having unexpected encounters with creatures. They will have a comfortable space to relax, have a snack/drink, or keep themselves occupied with toys and games. They’re also readily available to join for photos when needed.

When to book your indoor maternity photoshoot

The optimal timeframe is when you are between 28-34 weeks pregnant. While every woman carries differently, I have found most to have a beautifully pronounced baby bump, and you are comfortable moving around during your photo session. I recommend reaching out to schedule your maternity photoshoot as early as your second trimester. This ensures plenty of time for planning and availability on my calendar.
